Mind the (Communication) Gap Series: That thing...
Brit: [While walking in the street] Honey, look at that bonnet (pointing forwards). It's the same as ours.
Pinay: Which bonnet? I can't find anyone in front wearing a bonnet.
Brit: What anybody? I meant this!! (pointing to a car).
Pinay: That's a bonnet??!
Brit: Yes, exactly. The scratches in this car's bonnet is the same as what happened to our car's roof.
Pinay: (teeth gritting) In my world, we refer to that as a "hood", honey. A f*^%ing HOOD.

Mind the (Communication) Gap Series: White...
After watching Game 7 of the NBA finals:
Brit: Oh, the Boston Red Sox lost. Tsk. Tsk.
Pinay: (Rolling my eyes) It's the Celtics!
Brit: What do I know?! We never use our hands to shoot a ball.
Pinay: Then, just go back to watching the world cup, chubby funster.
Evidently, basketball is nada in the British sports vocabulary. I thought I changed the Brit when I took him to the Boston Celtics play offs against Miami Heat this year. I guess, he really just joined me for the beer. AND WE ARE BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD.

Mind the (Communication) Gap series: That thing...
Pinay: Please hand me my sweater.
Brit: This one? It's a jumper.
Pinay: Oh look at the guy in his jumper (overalls).
Brit: What jumper? That's a dungaree.
In short, you can never win against the Queen's English.
... and oh, that's a typical conversation in our household.

telly tales: royle family (bbc)
The hubby introduced me to an old but still relevant British sitcom about a lower middle class family up north - the Royle Family. The series is a snapshot of a British family life. The show is so funny, with all characters so relatable (and I’m not even British!). And oh, who can forget the brilliant lines, mostly from the dad, Jim “my arse” Royle. He cracks me up big time.
